It is said that there are more than 200 types of cancer in general. One such case is multiple myeloma. This multiple myeloma cancer was seen earlier in the age of at least 70 years. Currently found in the 50s.
Also, recent studies suggest that one lakh people worldwide are affected by multiple myeloma every year. The medical world says that this increasing multiple myeloma cancer is likely to take a huge form in the coming times. Senior cancer radiologist Dr.
Bhavaharan Rajalingam shares with us how this multiple myeloma cancer develops.. what are its treatment methods.. and ways to protect against it.
What is Multiple Myeloma?
Multiple myeloma is a rare type of blood cancer that affects plasma cells. Plasma cells help white blood cells (WBCs) produce antibodies and fight infections. These plasma cells are found in the bone marrow, the hollow space inside the bones. When these plasma cells suddenly grow out of control beyond a certain age, they cause genetic changes and cause inflammation. These at some point turn cancerous and lead to multiple myeloma. These cancerous cells are usually called multiple because they affect several parts of the bone marrow.
What causes multiple myeloma to develop?
Although the exact cause of multiple myeloma is not yet known, it is thought to be caused by abnormal genetic mutations, inflammation, or the environment. In particular, current research suggests that the food we eat has the greatest impact. That is, it is caused by the fact that we eat food that has been produced using pesticides and herbicides.
The truth is that in today’s environment, we are consuming a little bit of slow poison in the food we eat every day without even knowing it. This causes changes in genes and causes diseases. In the past, multiple myeloma was seen only in people over the age of 70. But now it is seen only in 50-60 years. This applies to all cancers in general, not just multiple myeloma. In particular, multiple myeloma is affected by the potency of the pesticides we ingest through food.
Types of Multiple Myeloma
Multiple myeloma has three stages. It is called malignant stage and premalignant stage. The premalignant stage means that it is detected before it develops into cancer. That is, recently many people have started doing a master health checkup once a year. By doing a master health check-up, the number of plasma cells in our body is detected and thereby preventing it from turning into cancer in the early stages. Milliganan stage is the treatment based on the severity of the disease after diagnosis.
symptoms
Most people with multiple myeloma have no symptoms. The symptoms appear only when the disease becomes more serious. It also varies from person to person. Common symptoms are abbreviated in the medical world as CRAB. That is calcium problem, kidney failure, anemia, bone damage etc.
For example, calcium deficiency affects calcium production in bone. Due to this, the bones become weak. Due to this, even if you tap somewhere lightly, you will fall and fracture the bone. Apart from this, it puts pressure on the spinal cord and causes back pain, leg pain, hand pain, constipation, difficulty urinating etc.
Renal failure (i.e. these overproduced plasma cells are unable to be excreted by the kidney. This causes total blockage in the kidney and kidney failure. Anemia affects the blood cells and causes anemia due to decreased blood production. So, as far as this multiple myeloma is concerned, it will come to him. It will come at this age. There is no chance of it happening to anyone at any age.
Apart from this, other symptoms are weight loss, bone pain, nausea, frequent infections, fatigue, confusion and loss of appetite, weakness or numbness in the legs, excessive thirst, problems urinating, vision loss or vision problems are some of the common symptoms.
Treatment methods
Multiple myeloma can come back at any time, even if treated once. We call this intermediate period the pre-disease period. During this period, the first treatment is to reduce the severity of multiple myeloma and prevent its growth. Apart from this, chemotherapy, radiation therapy, targeted therapy, immunotherapy, bone marrow transplant etc. are done.
What are the ways to protect yourself.. What kind of diet should be followed. Diet means you can eat this food. Eat that food. There is nothing that should not be taken. Whatever the food, it is best to avoid foods that have been heavily sprayed with pesticides and eat organic foods as much as possible.
This is because most cancers are caused by changes in genes. The main reason for this genetic modification is the food we eat. So, we should take organic foods as much as possible. Even if it is not possible, at least we can avoid at least 60 to 70 percent of the intensity of pesticides present in vegetables, rice, etc. when we clean the food items that we buy from the shops, whether it is fruits or vegetables or any kind of food item and cook it. can
Some may think so. I boil food thoroughly and eat it myself. This will kill the insects. Remember one thing. When we boil food, the insects are killed, but the chemicals in the pesticides remain. It will not die. So, analyze as thoroughly as possible.
Add some salt or soda salt to water like vegetables, fruits and keep it for some time and then use it.
Another thing about this is that even the water we drink is not clean these days. This contaminated water and pesticides are making the soil sterile. Therefore, there is a risk of these becoming serious problems in the near future.
Therefore, the government considers all these as a serious problem. Try to fix everything as much as possible. Similarly, production of organic foods
should be increased. Organic farmers should be encouraged more. If not, not only multiple myeloma but also other cancers will be more serious in the future.
Already, India ranks first in diabetes. It is also nearing the top spot in almost all cancers. Cancers have increased by about 300 percent in the last 20-30 years. This is due entirely to the intensity of the insecticide. Therefore, the government should consider this as a serious problem. Preventive measures should be taken. To protect the future.
